GENERATIONAL LOVE: A HENG FOH TONG STORY

This project was part of a school module where we were tasked to film a documentary about a heartland shop. I was assigned to Heng Foh Tong which was a Traditional Chinese Medicine shop going through digitalisation. 

 

My roles in this project were the Producer, Director, DOP and Editor. I came up with the animatics and shot list based on my vision and how I wanted Heng Foh Tong to be portrayed. I was heavily inspired by how Mr Lee, the third generation owner, got into the business despite his parents being against it as they knew it was really hard work. 

 

I first came up with an animatics to pitch my idea to the clients, then my team and I went down to the store to have a first interview with Mr Lee where we got to better understand Mr Lee and the store. I then went home to craft a storyboard, shot list, call sheet and a list of important pointers I had to make Mr Lee mention in the actual interview. The whole process was labour intensive but really rewarding at the end.
